Overview

The Technical Director of Mixers role is a senior-level position that reports directly to the VP of Product Development and is a key member of the Pro division R&D Leadership team. The successful candidate will bring both technical and business understanding, as well as excellent leadership and interpersonal skills. The Technical Director of Mixers will work closely with a internal engineering, external consultants and joint-design manufacturers to plan and execute an exciting Mixer roadmap for the QSC Pro Audio division. The successful candidate will also contribute in a hands-on manner to product design, architecture, implementation and have a willingness to travel (up to 15%), including some International travel.

 

Base Salary Range 164,000 – 190,000

 

The above reflects the pay range that QSC reasonably expects to pay for this role. This pay range also depends on various factors such as job duties and requirements, relevant experience and skills and geographic location. In addition to the base salary range, QSC offers a comprehensive package including but not limited to health benefits, 401K or Roth retirement plans, generous time off and profit sharing

Responsibilities

Technical Project Lead for Mixer Programs
• Leads and represents all Engineering aspects, directing both internal team members and external development partners. Utilizes highly effective interpersonal skills to build and grow relationships with third-party developers.
• Works closely with Product Managers and Industrial Designers to deeply understand market trends, user needs and Product Requirements, then translates that into an Engineering requirements Document (ERD) in order to successfully drive the execution team
• Works closely with functional R&D leaders to understand test validation and verification procedures within their area of discipline, in order to successfully convey new product acceptance criteria
• Develops detailed development plans and testing acceptance criteria to ensure product qaulity
• Uses deep system knowledge to architect and implement highly integrated solutions that combine Software, Hardware and Mechanical, in order to meet overall system requirements and achieve higher-order business outcomes.
• Collaborates closely with 3rd Party Consultants and JDM partners to establish workable project schedule, including design reviews, DFM reviews and other key milestones
• Ensures all BOM and other cost targets are met in order to achieve QSC’s business goals
• Identifies technical issues/risks for key projects and guides the team to create a risk mitigation plan(s). Captures recommended changes where appropriate to ensure workflow, success criteria, quality and deadlines are met.
• Supports NPI team for all products released to pilot, ramp and production. Recommends processes necessary to support the manufacturability and quality of new products

 

Rapid Response Engineering:
• Supports adjacent programs that may require a temporary infusion of senior HW engineering for design reviews, or troubleshooting.
• Drives impact by providing short-term assistance as an individual contributor to support other adjacent projects in need.

 

Travel Requirements:
• Ability and desire to travel to head office in Costa Mesa at least eight times per year.
• Ability and desire to travel to Asia and work alongside our JDM & CM partners if needed.

Qualifications

Education:

BS Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Advanced Degree Preferred. 

 

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience developing electronics for professional audio markets.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with offshore Joint-Design Manufacturing (JDM) partners, Contract Manufacturing (CM) partners and electronic component vendors.
  • Experience creating cost effective solutions that meet aggressive product feature, cost, quality, performance, and time-to-market requirements.
  • Experience with data measurements and analysis (e.g. Audio Precision, Tektronic LeCroy, etc).
  • Experience designing, simulating and implementing analog and high-speed digital audio products
  • Solid understanding on Audio-over-IP networking design implementation (Dante, AVB, etc)

  • Technical Leadership - Stays on top of technological advancement; experiments with a wide range of existing technologies while applying new and emerging options that can enhance organizational outcomes. Collaborates with Pro’s R&D leadership on new innovations and “shelf” technologies available. Delivers results using highly skilled problem solving, sound decision-making ability, stakeholder management, and technical resourcefulness.
  • Project Management - Works on multiple new development projects requiring innovative solutions. Ability to collaborate on schedules and milestones, while holding the development team to their commitment dates. Closely monitors project progress and proactively gets ahead of any schedule risk.
  • Communication - Leads proactive discussions with colleagues from across the organization about current project status. Sets the long-term strategic direction for ongoing ODM/JDM development, and communicates that strategy up, down, and across the organization.
